External Educational Projects

Our Partners in Progress

ISLAMIC FOUNDATION OF TORONTO – CANADA (IFT)– An initiative by the late Mrs. Faira Bari in 2004 to support the Tsunami victims.

For the past 20 years the Ceylon Moor Ladies’ Union in collaboration with IFT has been providing educational assistance for 80 tsunami affected school going children girls & boys. 29 children from Ampara and 51 children from Galle area. Out of the total of 80 children, 29 orphans have gone through university education, Alhamdulillah. Total orphans assisted to date is 249 including the 80 assisted currently. Almost all of the orphans/destitute assisted currently are replacements for the tsunami orphans as most of the Tsunami victims have passed the age of assistance. These orphans live with their guardians and coordinators disbursed the allowances to each of the orphans.

On 30th October 2024, a few CMLU members visited the Ampara project which is now in its 20th year. The two coordinators in the area have been efficiently handling the project with successful progress. Several Tsunami victims have progressed well in their school education and are engaged in university studies and/or being employed in responsible positions in their field of study. The coordinators presented appeals by 5 university students requesting for laptops to complete their research studies.

In response to the appeals from the Ampara coordinators, CMLU was able to reach out to a few generous donors who obliged to provide the Laptops. On 4th January 2025, the CMLU invited the five University students, from Ampara to handover the laptops through the Donors. The handing over was held at the CMLU headquarters. The following month a University student from the Galle project too made a request for a laptop which was presented subsequently.
