Re – location of the Home for Girls

The present CMLU Home for Girls was initiated in 1976 with a donation of US$ 5000 from the former President of Egypt, His Excellency Anwar Sadat during his visit to Sri Lanka for the Non-Align Summit Conference. With his generosity a government registered Home for Girls was opened on 8th May 1978 at No. 8 Balapokuna Road, Colombo 6 with initially 7 children being admitted by the Department of Probation and Child Care Service.

The CMLU Home for Girls has been serving underprivileged and vulnerable girls at the Balapokuna Road for the past 47 years, accommodating, educating and shaping up the lives of many orphans/destitute through the doors of the Home. We now find that more space is needed to accommodate certain facilities which are vital for the healthy development of children who have missed life within family units.

Our herculean task to purchase a suitable property within a safe environment will be accomplished in the near future.

Our mission in providing this new Home for the children according to the Probation Department requirements, has many advantages.

• A safe and good quality environment utilising maximum space to nurture growth and improve their quality of life.

• Space for recreational activities, gardening etc.

• Spacious living area with well-ventilated dormitories.

• Secured space for a special unit for children from severely unstable homes, who will need intensive private counselling.

• Covid-19 having brought the need for technology to our doorstep making a computer room essential so the children have access to zoom lessons and other required research activities to support their education.

• Accommodation for more children who need a safe home

The existing Home will be utilised as a training centre for empowering girls over 18 years. We appeal for your generosity, to help us with this worthy cause.

In effect you will be saving their very lives. This would mean you could be sending a child to school, educating them, providing them with a secure home and environment and protecting them from dangerous situations, such as abuse, violence or exploitation. Everything that a child learns as a result of your support, means you will gain the reward for it. “And they ask you, O Prophet, about looking after orphans. Say: Setting their affairs right is best for you and them….” (Surat Al-Baqarah, 2:220)

We believe that ‘There is no strength and power except from Allah’ and we extend this appeal trusting that you will help us make this worthy project come to fruition Insha Allah

All contributions make a big difference in the lives of the vulnerable, destitute children who are craving for compassion and equal status in this world.

May Almighty Allah bless All abundantly and be pleased with You and Your loved Ones in this World and the Hereafter. Ameen!
