I am Saajida Shoabdeen. Was born in Hemmathagama. My father left me and my younger sister and mom when I was two years old. Our grand-parents took care of us until I was 04 years old. We went through several hardships during our childhood and missed schooling on and off.
At the Home we were well looked after by our Aunties who were managing the CMLU. After I got through my A/L examination, Aunties encouraged me to complete my degree studies at the NISD. My sister opted to do vocational training as she showed talents in sewing and handicrafts. After I completed my 3 years of studies financially assisted by the CMLU, I received a laptop form the CMLU and that helped me in the continuation of the final year. May Almighty Allah accept the kind thoughts of the CMLU Aunties and bless them Always, Ameen!
Alhamdulillah, I completed my degree in March 2018 and I was able to achieve this before the premature death of our dear mom, it was her dream to see me as a graduate. May Almighty Allah grant her Jennathul Firdhouse. Ameen!
I am now married to a graduate in Social Work who supports me in my further studies. We have two children. Currently I am pursuing my MSc studies at the University of Colombo. Alhamdulillah the education I received at the CMLU was therapeutic and today I can be independent because of the enrichment I received at CMLU. I am grateful to Almighty Allah and thank all the Aunties at the CMLU. I owe my gratitude to CMLU and the Home for Girls Insha Allah!
